The England Slalom Club Support Scheme fund opens for new applications from eligible England-based Slalom clubs.
The scheme is joint-funded and supported by the England Talent Programme and the England Canoe Slalom Committee.
The money invested into the scheme by the England Canoe Slalom Committee is as a direct result of the levies paid by Canoe Slalom events hosted in England.
The purpose of the fund is designed to act as a financial catalyst to kick-start innovative projects, or to support existing projects which drive development within the slalom pathway.
Since the scheme's launch in 2023 a total of £10,000 has been committed to support club projects and activity.
One of the clubs that have benefited from this scheme is Proteus Canoe Club.
They asked for funding to contribute towards the purchase of new equipment to enable the club to run a 10 week ‘Slalom Start’ programme.

Club Slalom representative, Mick Stegeman, said:
“We had an idea to launch a Slalom Start programme to teach and coach Canoe Slalom to first time canoeists.
“Keeping our paddlers safe and warm was a primary concern and our club kit, donated by paddlers over the years, was in a bit of a sad state and mainly sized for adults.
“This funding has allowed us to purchase new spray decks and centre cags from Peak PS for us to run this recruitment programme.
“This has enabled seven young first time canoeists to start a 10 week slalom introduction programme, leading to entries to the club slalom and all new members of the club.”
Another club to have also benefited from this scheme was Wyedean Canoe Club.
Their application involved upgrading and repairing damage to the gate system at Symonds Yat caused by the winter flooding alongside the development of kayak cross on the site.
Less than six months later Wyedean CC now have four kayak cross gates and are now running regular Monday kayak cross sessions.
Slalom coach Mike Mitchell said:
“Thanks to the Club Support Scheme we have been able to follow through with our ambition to set up a regular kayak cross session at Symonds Yat.
“Everyone thoroughly enjoys these sessions and can't wait until Monday comes around again.”
