0.083 seconds separated Jon Tarrant from a medal on the second day of the canoe sprint and paracanoe European Championships in Szeged, Hungary.
Making his international debut, Charlie Knowlden was also in the men's KL3 final, whilst Emily Lewis and Rebii Simon took on their respective A Finals.
It was a neck and neck finish in the men's KL3 final as Royal Leamington Spa duo Tarrant and Knowlden both lined up.
Tarrant was part of the five athletes battling for those three medals and it was too close to call on first look as they crossed the line.
Tarrant's effort saw him finish fifth overall in 41.390, just 0.083 seconds off a bronze.
Speaking after the final, Tarrant said:
“I'm a little frustrated by the outcome. I didn't quite get off the line the way I would have liked, but to back-up yesterday's PB with another 41.9 in spite of that is encouraging.
“Hopefully I can continue to build on the massive progress I've made this year going into the next cycle.
“Szeged is a great course and it's always a privilege to pull on the jersey.”
Impressing over the last few days, Knowlden raced his first international final after a dominant semi-final this morning.
It was another great race from Knowlden in the final, as he placed seventh in 43.210.
“I can't put into words what putting on the GB vest this week has meant to me. It's a culmination of all the hard work over the past two seasons.
“I couldn't be happier to be honest. Just getting here was the goal to be honest so to finish seventh in the final is incredible and I'm proud of how I've done so far.
“Winning the semi-final and crush another PB was awesome.”
Emily Lewis (Worcester) lined up in another A Final in the women's K1 200m after winning bronze at the World Cup in Szeged earlier this season.
It was a great start from Lewis, but she couldn't quite match the pace of the top three as her time of 41.733 placed her eighth.
Rebii Simon (Elmbridge) finished seventh in the women's K1 1000m A Final this afternoon.
Coming into the competition off the back of a fourth place at the World Cup in Poznan, Simon qualified powered through her early semi-final, before knocking five seconds off in her final to finish seventh in 4:00.295
A great semi-final performance from Katie Reid (Forth) saw her qualify for the women's C1 200m A Final on Sunday.
Needing a top three finish to progress, Reid was amongst the four looking to qualify for Sunday, and after fighting off a challenge from Moldova paddler Maria Olarasu, she finished third in 47.790.
Reid was then back in semi-final action for the 500m, but unfortunately her time of 2:12.289 was outside of A Final qualification.
Dan Johnson (Chelmsford) will contest Sunday's K1M 1000m B Final after his semi-final run this morning.
It was tight between third and eighth as Johnson crossed the line in seventh in 3:33.250, a second and a half off the A Final.
It was a photo-finish in the women's K1 500m semi-finals as Deborah Kerr (Anker Valley) just missed out on the A Final by 0.05 seconds. Her time of 1:51.270 saw her finish fourth and will race the B Final tomorrow.
Kerr then returned to race the K2W 500m semi-finals alongside teammate Emma Russell (Chelmsford) but unfortunately their time of 1:45.289 placed them eighth and outside the final.
Racing internationally for the first time, Xander Van Der Poll put down another great run in the men's VL2 semi-finals, cutting a second off his heats time.
It was incredibly close for the debutant, but his time of 58.451 was just 0.2 off the A Final.
Trevor Thomson (Ealing) was in K1 men's 200m action as he raced the semi-finals. Sadly for Thomson, his time of 36.085 saw him finishing eighth with a top three position needed.
He then joined James Russell (Nottingham) in the newly formed K2M 500m crew, where they finished sixth in their semi-final run in 1:31.664, to book a place in the B Final.
Matt Johnson (Chelmsford) and Matt Collinge (Fowey) finished fourth in their K2M 1000m semi-final, a time of 3:17.873 was just short of on an A Final place.
Lewis was in the boat twice on day two of racing, as she joined forces with Lucy Lee-Smith (Norwich). The duo finished fifth in their semi-final in a time of 38.964.
Ben Phillips (Richmond) and Jonny Jones (Fladbury) didn't progress through the C2M 500m semi-finals after being given a DSQ.
