Ryan Westley continued his impressive form on the Krakow course to win a bronze in the men's C1 final at the third slalom World Cup of the season.
In an extremely competitive men's C1 final, Westley (Lower Wharfe) was second last down in the final after a strong semi-final run, and went in search of an extraordinary time set by Jules Bernadet (France)
With 91.12 to beat, Westley was within touching distance at the first split. He lost a bit of time in the middle section of the course before finishing incredibly strongly.
Crossing the line in a clean time of 93.94, he went into third place with teenager Ziga Lin Hocevar to go.
The Slovenian couldn't match the podium times, meaning Westley claimed a bronze on the same course where he became European Games Champion last season.
He said:
“I'm really happy with my runs this weekend. I've not had the best six months, but I've historically been really good in Krakow. After last weekend I ended up 11th which wasn't ideal, so to come here and perform the way I have is great.
“I attacked the final with purpose. I felt like there was nothing to lose, and when I crossed the line I couldn't see my time so I wasn't sure what had happened. I was delighted when I saw my time.
“I knew I could be good here. A few top boats were missing but I'm delighted to get back on the podium.
“This is the first time ever I've finished top three through all the rounds. It felt weird not watching everyone else come down in the kiss and cry area.”
Paris 2024 bound Adam Burgess (Stafford & Stone) was also in men's C1 final action, going in search of the winning time of 91.12.
He was on for a great run and had a fantastic middle section of the course, but sadly for the Tokyo Olympian, he was spat out of the tricky gate 18-19 move which cost him too much time.
Despite going clean, he placed ninth overall.
Kurts Adams Rozentals (Stafford & Stone) looked strong in the men's canoe semi-finals as he returned to the course he won U23 World silver on last season.
His split times were up with those already set during the round, but a late review on gate 5 added 50 seconds to his time which took him out the running.
In the women's canoe, Ellis Miller (Lee Valley) narrowly missed out on reaching her second World Cup final of the season.
Sadly for Miller, she picked up a touch on gate 14 which added two seconds to her time, which saw her finish 12th overall in 114.36, just 0.26 off the top ten needed.
Gate touches also cost clubmate Phoebe Spicer (Lee Valley) a place in the final. She picked up eight seconds of penalties during her run which saw her finish 28th overall.
