A great performance from Tom Lambert saw him narrowly miss out on a medal, whilst Zoe Clark also battled an A Final on the third day of the Junior and U23 canoe sprint European Championships.
Elsewhere, Amy Green will be the third boat in A Final action tomorrow as she secured a top three finish in her 200m semi-finals.
Racing out in Bratislava, Lambert (Lincoln) lined up in the U23 C1 men's 1000m A Final this morning.
Fighting amongst the top five, the 22-year-old was in the mix with the top boats at the halfway stage.
Adam Rudolf (Czechia) had a clear lead, but the remainder of the podium was up for grabs, and with Lambert pulling closer in the second half of the race, he just missed out on catching third spot.
Lunging ahead of Kristof Kollar (Hungary), Lambert took fourth place in 3:59.348, less than a second off his first international medal.
The Lincoln paddler was back on the water again in the afternoon for the 200m, but he sadly didn't progress to a final as he finished sixth in 41.956.
Royal athlete Zoe Clark was also in A Final action as she finished sixth in the U23 K1W 1000m.
Sitting in seventh at the halfway point, Clark did start to up the pace in the back end of her race as she looked to close the gap on the leading cohort.
Really upping the speed in the final moments, the Royal paddler snatched sixth on the line, whilst closing the gap to two and a half seconds off the podium.
Finishing in her fastest time of the weekend of 4:05.444, she said:
“It wasn't the best race I've ever done, but despite it not being the result I wanted, I can definitely take some useful learnings from it ahead of World Champs in a few weeks time.
“I could've gone for it more in the second half of the race, although I did claw back some distance on the race leaders. I left myself with too much work to do in the final 300m.
“Looking at my splits, it’s a nice feeling to have a stronger finish but I would have maybe done that earlier in my race.
“It's my first race in this event internationally for five years, so I can take confidence that I was relatively close to the top boats.”
Her attention now turns to the K2 500m A Final with Kristina Armstrong tomorrow.
“I'm really excited to see how we get on tomorrow. The K2 is my main focus for the weekend.
“As much as the K1 1000m is an important event, the K2 500m is an Olympic event so my focus turns to that.
“The boat has been going well and we both know we're strong paddlers and we back each other which is important.”
Phil Miles (Royal Leamington Spa) kicked off proceedings with a well executed victory in the B Final of the U23 K1M 1000m.
It was a brilliant tussle amongst the leading boats, but Miles shrugged off his challengers to bring home the victory in 3:41.03, almost a second ahead.
Miles was also in the last race of the day for Britain as he combined with Benji Cabrera (Fowey) in the U23 K2M 500m semi-finals.
The pair will be in B Final action tomorrow after posting 1:32.241 to finish sixth.
A fantastic run from Amy Green earned the Worcester athlete a spot in the U23 K1W 200m A Final.
She will line up in her first A Final tomorrow as she finished second in a nail-biting semi-final with a time of 41.833, with five athletes going for the top three.
Annabel Hutchinson (Reading) and Mollie Ball (Devizes) took on the junior K2W 500m semi-finals this afternoon.
The pair qualified for the B Final tomorrow after a strong fifth place finish in 1:51.442.
Richmond athlete Nelson Kinzler will contest the B Final of the junior K1M 200m tomorrow after a great effort in his semi-final today.
Kinzler was incredibly close to making his first European A Final, but just missed out in fifth with a time of 37.471, half a second off the top three.
Dianora De Bilio (Royal) will also take on the B Final of the women's junior K1 200m as she finished seventh in her semi-final.
Taking to the water for the second time of the day, she clocked 44.995 to take her place in tomorrow's race.
The junior K4W 500m crew of De Bilio, Francesca Scrivener (Falcon), Charlotte Fulford-Perez (Reading) and Kamila Sklenarova (Norwich) took to their semi-finals.
It was a battling effort from the four athletes, but sadly didn't progress to the final as they finished eighth in 1:45.862.
Elise Montagna (Royal), Jessie Urquhart (Nottingham), Amy Green (Worcester) and Katie Pocklington (Nottingham) also took on the U23 K4 semi-final, but their time of 1:40.879 saw them finish fourth, with only the top three moving on to the final.
