The Inclusion Advisory Group (IAG) is recruiting for a new volunteer Chair, as we bid farewell to John McCalla-Leacy. John was appointed as Chair three years ago when the IAG was originally formed, and has been a crucial supporter of Paddle UK's commitment to its inclusive agenda.
As a former Team GB canoe slalom athlete and coach, John brought both his paddling and leadership experience to the Chairship. Paddle UK is hugely grateful to John for his energy, input and enthusiasm in post, and for forming an exciting path for a new Chair to take forward.
The IAG has supported some of Paddle UK's most important equality, diversity and inclusion work, including the development of #WePaddleTogether, the organisation’s equality, diversity and inclusion strategy; our recent neurodiversity mini-series; informing leadership awareness; and developing inclusion resources for the paddling community. The IAG's primary role is to advocate for and support the delivery of #WePaddleTogether, and hold the organisation accountable to its actions – therefore Paddle UK is looking for a Chair passionate about influencing organisational change for inclusion.
The Chair is responsible for the overall delivery and effectiveness of the IAG, and is a crucial link between Paddle UK and the members of the Group. Paddle UK is looking for someone with chairing experience, who is able to lead and support the group effectively. An understanding of the barriers under-represented groups face, and an ability to respond positively to challenge, are essential for this role.
For further information on the role, the skills and experience required, or Paddle UK as an organisation, please refer to the volunteer pack below. You can also visit the IAG page on the website. If you wish to apply, please send your CV, cover letter and completed equality monitoring form for the attention of Nancy Squires to by 5:00pm on Friday 10th May 2024.
Paddle UK recognises the need for our advisory groups to be representative of the paddling community, and wider society. As the IAG focuses on equality, diversity and inclusion, Paddle UK is committed to recruiting members who represent a wide range of backgrounds, identities and experiences. Currently, there is underrepresentation by members with disabilities, and those from ethnically diverse backgrounds, and therefore we encourage applications from candidates from these backgrounds.
