The first Nottingham kayak cross event will take place at the white water course at Holme Pierrepont, on 19 April 2024.
The partnership, between the National Water Sports Centre and Paddle UK, is a first in the country and will be crucial in developing a strong future pathway for British athletes in the new Olympic sport.
It will also provide the opportunity for paddlers from across all white water backgrounds, such as freestyle, wild water racing, river running to join in and have a go.
Kayak cross will make its Olympic debut in Paris, and Great Britain has already blazed a trail in the discipline.
Rio 2016 K1 gold medalist Joe Clarke MBE is already a three-time world champion in the event with compatriot Kimberley Woods also winning the women's 2023 world title.
Brits Sam Leaver and Jonny Dickson were also U23 World gold and bronze medalists respectively.
Rich Ramsdale, Head of Pathways, Competition and Events at Paddle UK, said: “After an unprecedented winter of rainfall and flooding, the first kayak cross events are now ready to take place.
“Starting from 19 April, dedicated water slots with kayak cross gates will be available for paddlers to book onto, with the introduction of a new semi-permanent kayak cross ramp which we hope will be installed and ready to use in the next few months.
“We're looking forward to seeing paddlers from all white water disciplines taking part.”
Jack Garner, Regional Director for Serco Leisure, which manages the National Water Sports Centre on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council, said:
“We're very proud to be supporting Paddle UK as they look to grow participation numbers in this exciting water sport.
“Our white water course is one of the jewels in the National Water Sports Centre crown, and we can't wait to see the first batch of kayak cross paddlers hitting the course this April.”
The sessions are due to start at 6pm on 19 April with subsequent sessions available on Friday evenings over the following weeks and months.
Those who want to take part can book on as normal to use the course, and they will just have the option to train on the kayak cross gates alongside paddling as usual.
Customers can log into their account and book onto the session here.
