Today the England Talent Programme has launched the white water competencies video series of the Canoe Slalom Technical Progression Guide.
These latest videos are targeted at enhancing interaction between the slalom boat and the white water environment.
The videos, available on the Awarding Body website here, are split into four groups:
- Foundation competencies
- Gate based competencies
- White Water competencies
- Feature based competencies.
Today’s release is the third instalment of videos, with the final feature-based competencies released later in 2024.
Since their launch the current videos have amassed over 13,000 views and have been developed to be used by both coaches and athletes providing a technical curriculum, session primer, an educational tool, as well as a session resource.
We welcome the feedback we have received from the community of users and there is now a glossary of terms linked into each video available here. There is also further explanation as to the context in which each of the upstreams referenced might best be used. Both which should help better explain and improve the learning experience.
Launched in March 2023 the Canoe Slalom Technical Progression Guide is a suite of short videos, focusing on the different competencies required to become a successful slalom athlete bringing to life much of the content covered in our ‘What It Takes to Progress athlete development (WITTP) framework'.
The WITTP framework, available on the Awarding Body website here, was launched in July 2021, identifies the key foundations that underpin long term potential, across genders and classes detailing technique, physical preparation, psychological characteristics and behaviours along with racing and training experiences.
