Event Description

Aim: To enable students to safely get the ‘feel’ of moving water and want more.

Target audience: First timers on moving water (or second timers who want to blow some cobwebs away). As a minimum, students must already be able to paddle in a straight line on open water.

What to expect: You’ll take your first steps in controlling your boat, body and blade on very simple moving water. The focus will be on ferry gliding and breaking in/breaking out.

Likely location. Park & Play venue in Central Cumbria; specific location will be dependent on water levels.

Provisional timings: Meet at 9.30 am; off the water by 3.30 pm.

Gear: Each student will need to bring a boat (with securely fitted buoyancy and through-hull strong points at bow & stern), plus a paddle, buoyancy aid/PFD and helmet. (A boat with a kneeling thwart will be advantageous for those paddling solo.)

Event fee: £35 per person.

Led by Mac Knowles & Tony Crook.
