Entry requirements:

  • In order to compete, individuals will need to be ranked in Division 1, have passed the Lee Valley White Water Centre assessment or show proof of similar experience elsewhere.

  • Those under the age of 18 on 1st January 2024 should enter the U18 Women and Men competition.

Early registration window:  8 January – 14 February.

There is an early registration window from 8 January until 14 February that is ONLY accessible only for athletes who qualified through the specific published Kayak Cross process detailed in section 13.1.1. of the Canoe Slalom & Kayak Cross 2024 Senior Team Selection Policy. Any athletes that will register during this early registration window who do not have access to this early registration window as per policy, will be removed if maximum entry is achieved before the 14th of February.

Equipment:

The rules for equipment will be in accordance with ICF rules for the 2023 season. This means that paddles must be taped to remove sharp edges and the edges must meet a minimum thickness of 5mm, Buoyancy aids must meet the rules for kayak cross, boats are on an approved ICF kayak cross list and Helmets must be those on the approved kayak Cross equipment list. Long Sleeve tops are also mandatory in Kayak Cross. The ICF rules can be found at: https://www.canoeicf.com/rules#slalom

There will be 10 Pyranha Kayaks available for individuals to borrow. ALL other items (incl spray decks) will need to be provided by the athlete.

Race format:

We will run 3 separate races over two days, race one on Sunday 31st March and race two on Monday 1st April. There will be opportunities for practice on Sunday morning 31st March. The races will each consist of a Time Trial Phase that will seed the top 16 paddlers into the Head-to-Head phases where the top 8 of the Time Trail will paddle for position 1-8 and Time Trail ranked boats 9-16 paddle for position 9-16. The 2024 Senior & U23 Kayak Cross Team Selection Policy and the  2024 Junior Kayak Cross Team Selection Policy specify further race format details, race rules and calculation of the scores.
