Britain's men's U21 canoe polo team claimed a fantastic silver medal at the Canoe Europe ECA Cup in France this weekend.
The British teams were competing in Saint Omer, which once again turned into the capital of European canoe polo this weekend.
Progressing nicely through the tournament including a big result against the French in the opening game, the men's U21 side came up against a strong Spanish side in the final.
Toby Marlow got the scoring underway as the British team took an early lead, whilst Jake Searle ensured the Brits headed into half-time level at 2-2 after Spain had notched two quick fire goals.
Searle scored his second as the Brits found themselves 5-3 down with four minutes to play, but captain Angus Boyle kick-started the fight back with his first of the match.
In the dying seconds, Searle completed his hat-trick to make it 5-5.
But sadly for the British team, a goal from Antonio Romero Mesa saw the final finish 6-5 to Spain, with the Brits taking home an impressive silver medal.
Speaking after the final, Angus Boyle said:
“It's a tough one to take. We thought we could win for sure. We beat everyone's expectations this weekend and I'm happy with the result overall.
“We came back from 5-3 down to pull it back to 5-5 was great and I thought we could win it.”
“We all have trust as a team. We had less pressure on ourselves and we started the tournament well beating France. We got better and better as we went through the rounds.
“I'm really excited for the World Championships now. We've got a lot of training still to do but we’re very excited to see what we can do.”
The senior men's side just missed out on a medal themselves as they suffered a 7-4 defeat to Denmark in the bronze medal match despite a Suryan McCutcheon hat-trick.
The men's B team placed sixth overall after losing 2-0 to France in their final match.
Britain's U21 women's team placed fifth overall. Finishing third in their group, they came up against the women's U21 B to take a 7-1 victory, then going on to beat Poland 3-1 to finish fifth overall.
The U21 B team placed eighth overall after a 4-1 loss to Czechia.
After claiming seven points in the group stages, the senior women's side finished sixth overall. A comprehensive 5-2 win against Ireland in the classifying round, they went on to a narrow 2-1 defeat to Spain.
