Impressive semi-final runs from Zoe Clark and Annabel Hutchinson secured the British team their first A Finals of the 2024 ICF Junior & U23 Canoe Sprint World Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
A full house of semi-finals were also achieved this morning, whilst the U23 men's K4 500m crew will race the B Final to round off a successful day two.
Hutchinson (Reading) was the first of the Brits to book her A Final berth as she powered her way to a top three semi-final finish in the junior women's K1 1000m.
Battling well at the top of the field, Hutchinson ensured she was comfortably within the A Final qualification as she crossed the line in 4:18.768.
Hutchinson had already banked her second semi-final of the event earlier in the day, as she finished fifth in the K1W 500m.
Clocking 2:01.585, the Reading paddler progressed safely through to Saturday's racing.
Clark (Royal) also secured her second A Final of the season as she raced the U23 K1 1000m.
It was a fantastic finish from Clark as she managed to increase her advantage ahead of the Danish paddler Emily Bonney in the final 250m to ensure she will contest the A Final tomorrow morning.
Her time of 4:20.792 was enough to finish third.
U23 European Champion Kristina Armstrong (Scottish Performance Squad) was back in U23 K1W 500m action after an impressive competition in Bratislava last month.
After a great run in the K2 with Clark yesterday, Armstrong continued her impressive form in the individual boat to finish second with a time of 1:56.808, booking her semi-final place on Saturday.
Lincoln's Tom Lambert secured his second semi-final of the week after his 1000m race yesterday. Thursday saw him return to the U23 C1 500m, where a powerful finish put him second, in a time of 1:51.440.
Phil Miles (Royal Leamington Spa), Xavier Hinves (Southampton), Dylan O’Connor (Richmond), and Benji Cabrera (Fowey) will contest the U23 K4 500m B Final early tomorrow after finishing fourth in their semi-final.
Their time of 1:24.329 was just shy of the top three needed to compete in the A Final.
In his individual event, Miles will also contest the K1 1000m semi-finals after a fifth place finish in his U23 heat. Miles progressed after clocking 3:42.435.
Toby Bullock (Exeter) will be in semi-final A action on Saturday after opening his individual account for the week in the men's K1 1000m junior heats.
Two seconds separated the top five as Bullock finished fifth in 3:47.044, his result placing him on the right side of the semi-final draw.
