It wasn't to be for the Brits on the second day of racing at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup 2 in Prague.
Under the blazing sun and roaring partisan crowd, Mallory was ninth to go in the final after an impressive heats run this morning which saw her qualify with the second fastest time.
Having stormed out of the start gate, Mallory was well up on the leading time, set by local paddler and eventual winner Gabriela Satkova, by the time she reached the first time check.
Unfortunately, a touch on gate six upset her rhythm, causing her to flip and, due to heightened river levels, the shorter course allowed no room for error. Mallory picked up penalty time for missed gates and finished in 10th place.
After her race, she reflected: “I just felt a bit offline through gates 5, 6 and 7, taking the touch on 6.
“I just never opened up that move enough and came down with a lot of speed and couldn't hold it.
“I'm disappointed obviously, but this year is about the Olympic Games so I’ll refocus, reset and see what I can do in Paris.”
Lee Valley Paddlesports' Ellis Miller and Phoebe Spicer were in action in the heats this morning.
Ellis put down a clean run to finish in 24th place with Phoebe in 43rd.
The narrowest of margins cost Ryan Westley (Lower Wharf) a spot in the men's final.
He fell victim to the condensed programme, missing out by just 0.04 seconds.
His clean run of 90.09 saw him finish in 11th place in the heats of the men's C1, with just the top ten making the cut.
Adam Burgess (Stafford and Stone) looked on course to make the final with one of the fastest runs of the day but late touches on gates 17 and 19 meant he ultimately finished in 16th place.
His Stafford and Stone teammate Kurts Adams Rozentals picked up a touch on gate 15 and finished in 35th place overall.
Kayak Cross time-trials rounded off the second day of racing, with Britain going in search of an additional men’s kayak cross boat quota place for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
All six Brits progressed to the next stage, with Jonny Dickson (CR Cats), Jake Brown (Tees Tigers) and Ben Haylett (Holme Pierrepont) finishing 5th, 12th and 25th respectively.
Kimberley Woods (Rugby) placed 4th in the women’s time-trials, closely followed by Lois Leaver (Edinburgh Schools) and Nikita Setchell (Holme Pierrepont) in 7th and 12th.
