Ellis Miller started her 2024 world cup season with intent, finishing in sixth place in the C1 on day three of the ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup in Augsburg, Germany.
Having taken up the sport after being inspired by the London 2012 Olympic Games, Lee Valley's Miller is making her senior team debut this season and was the highest placed Brit today.
With a strong performance in the semis, Ellis attacked the top of the tricky German Eiskanal course in the final and despite losing a little bit of momentum had recovered her boat speed by gates 5 and 6.
Touches on gates 12 and 13 put the minor medals out of reach but Ellis crossed the line in fourth place with six athletes still to go.
She eventually finished in 6th place, a fantastic start to her debut senior season.
Ellis said: “I knew I was capable of making the finals, I showed that in Tacen a few weeks ago at the European Championships. The plan with my coach, Nathalie, was to carry that momentum forward, with an attacking mentality.
“I put a good run together in the semi-final but I felt like I was chasing a bit during the final.
“I'm pleased that it's all coming together and I'm going to keep building into Prague next weekend.”
MalloryFranklin had one of the fastest runs of the semi-finals but five gate touches put the final out of reach for the reigning world champion and she finished in 19th place.
Lee Valley's Phoebe Spicer was 26th overall.
Stafford and Stone's Olympian Adam Burgess was 10th in the final of the men's C1.
Having had a fast start Adam looked smooth through the top half of the technical course, but gate 12 which caught a number of athletes out today, was costly. He ultimately finished in 10th place.
Ryan Westley put down one of the rare clean runs of the day in the semi-final but a paddle back meant he finished in 14th.
