Stuart Wood reached a career high at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo in 2021 as he claimed bronze in the VL3 event.
With the World Championships being hosted just two weeks later, Wood was one of a number of British athletes to follow up their Paralympic success in Copenhagen.
After bronze in 2019, he claimed world silver for the first time in his career, just being edged out by British teammate Jack Eyers for the title.
Two weeks after his world silver, Wood was diagnosed with Stage 3b Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He was given the all clear in 2022 but was unable to compete until the 2023 season.
Wood enjoyed an incredible return in 2023, winning the first World Cup gold of his career in Szeged on his first race back, before achieving the same result at the Paris event.
A breakthrough season in 2019 saw Wood come away with two international medals, a first European title and world bronze. The latter qualified the British VL3 boat quota place for the Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
Wood is a graduate from the University of Bath where he studied Maths, Physics and Computer Science. He now works in software development in Nottingham.
