European champion from 2018, Dave Phillipson made his fourth appearance at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo, and first in paracanoe, finishing seventh in the KL2.
Phillipson made the switch from wheelchair tennis, where he had been British No.1 in 2008 and competed at three successive Paralympic Games ‒ Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Rio 2016.
He enjoyed a fine season the year after the Paralympic Games in Tokyo, winning world silver and European bronze in 2022. Phillipson joined the Podium Potential Programme late in 2017, and in 2018 won the European title in the VL3.
Phillipson had an exceptional start to the 2024 season, winning KL2 silver at the World Championships in Szeged, also qualifying Britain’s boat quota place in the event for Paris 2024.
Before making the switch from tennis, canoeing wasn't completely new to Phillipson as he had paddled recreationally before and was always a fan of water sports.
