Aim: To help Grade 1/2 paddlers gain more understanding and confidence on challenging water.
Target audience: Grade 1/2 paddlers who are looking to gain more understanding and confidence.
What to expect: Within the ‘safety bubble’ of a led group, this will be a Grade 2(3) moving water learning day for students, with the event leader sharing his knowledge of river reading, line selection, running strategies, group safety/control and protecting rapids. Opportunities should exist for students to lead. A day to build skills on moving water, running Grade 2 rapids with Grade 3 to finish.
Expected location: Lune, Confluence to Devil’s Bridge.
Provisional timings: Meet at 9.30 am.
Gear: Each student will need to bring a boat (with securely fitted buoyancy and swim lines at bow and stern), plus a paddle, spare paddle, buoyancy aid/PFD, helmet, throw line (separate from their swim lines) and a rope cutting device/knife. (A boat with a kneeling thwart will be very advantageous for those paddling solo.)
Event fee: £35 per person.
Led by Rob Gregory.
