Friend of Broadway’s Meadow
Requirements
Day Parking
Requirements
Club/Provider Day Group
Requirements
Single person, Single night Camping
Requirements
Regular users may wish to obtain a ‘Friends of Broadway’s Meadow’ pass.
It is great that you want to join us a Friend, and this will allow you to to park and launch from the Meadow free for a year. If you paddle with others (to be encouraged!) they will need to become Friends or pay the day rate for parking.
You may also be invited by email to take part in work parties to maintain and tidy the Meadow. This is optional/voluntary, but all help would be greatly appreciated.
New for 2024
The ‘Friends’ fee will be renewable on the 1st April each year from this year.
From April to September there will be portaloos on site. We ask that these are treated with respect and kept locked when not in use. If the provision of toilets works well, we will look at compostable, sustainable solutions for future years.
The Friends Of Broadway’s Meadow ticket does not cover camping, for which a separate booking and payment will need to be made (£4.50pppn). Please email to check availability, ideally providing at least 2 weeks notice. Note: although we will do our best to fulfil camping requests, the Meadow occupancy is limited and the EMRDT may need to decline requests if the field is already booked.
Broadway’s Meadow information
In 2020, British Canoeing agreed a lease for land in Barrow-upon-Soar, Leicestershire on the banks of the River Soar. The site will enable safe landing and launch for paddlers on one of the East Midland’s most popular rivers for paddling. The site is well placed for the second night of a three-day Soar Tour expedition.
Broadway’s Meadow is well situated to give access to sections of the River Soar. There are three circular routes of varying lengths available. It also provides an ideal location for the second night of a three-day, 32 mile, tour of the River from Narborough, south of Leicester, to Trent Lock on the Nottinghamshire boarder where the Soar flows into the Trent. www.soartour.org.uk
The meadow is leased by British Canoeing and managed by the East Midlands Regional Development Team for the benefit of paddlers. Whether to park and launch, attend one of the popular Barrow Winter Race Series or to camp with family, friends or club, the field is there to be used.
We are pleased to be working closely with Leicester & District Amalgamated Society of Anglers to allow their members to park and access the tow path. Through mutual respect, both anglers and paddlers can enjoy all the site has to offer. Broadway’s Meadow is a fantastic resource for the whole paddling community, so please enjoy and respect the land and its neighbours. At present there is a waterpoint and seasonal portaloos on site.
Location
By boat, the land is situated on river left, immediately after the Barrow-upon-Soar road bridge opposite The Moorings beer garden. The egress is on the towpath side of the river and care should be taken to keep this clear for walkers and cyclists when getting on and off the river. From the road, the site can be accessed via a gate just past the bridge traffic light on Barrow Road approaching from the A6. Please do not park in the gateway.
Nearest post code is LE12 8XJ or What3words: ///tides.streamers.slung Click here for the exact Google Maps location
Paddlers are welcome to land at Broadway’s Meadow at anytime, landing on the left bank below Barrow bridge or further around the corner using a custom launch platform. Please keep the tow path clear when moving boats to and from the water.
Access to park and launch from the meadow can be arranged by contacting the Regional Development Team via;
The meadow is available for paddlers to use for discreet wild camping. This is strictly by prior arrangement only, due to Council restrictions on usage of the land. Camping is £4.50 per person per night
