Equipment Modification

  • Safety Alert

Equipment modification relates to any change to equipment which is different from the manufacturer's design. Paddle UK has been made aware that modifications are being carried out on Stand Up Paddleboard leashes. This might include but is not limited to any of the following modifications:

  • Creating a self made or DIY leash or quick release leash
  • Using or adjusting equipment from other sports and using as a leash
  • Customising leashes to fit a range of paddlers rather than having appropriate sizes and styles available

Paddle UK would like to raise awareness that any modification of paddlesport equipment can affect the original design and compromise safety.

Manufacturers carry out testing of their equipment as well as meeting approved standards where appropriate for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Any change or modification may mean that the purpose of the equipment is no longer fit for purpose.
